The University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) has taken a significant step to enhance the working environment for its senior academic and non-academic staff.

Sequel to this the vice chancellor of the institution, Prof. Francisca Bassey, commenced the distribution of modern office furniture to professors, deans, heads of departments, and other senior staff members to increase their productivity.

The furniture, procured through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), includes executive tables and chairs, bookshelves, cabinets, and refrigerators. This initiative is aimed at improving office facilities and boosting staff morale, ultimately leading to enhanced productivity and administrative efficiency.

Speaking during the presentation ceremony of the last batch of furniture for the quarter, Prof. Bassey emphasised the importance of creating a conducive working environment.

“This initiative reflects the university’s management commitment to creating a conducive environment that supports high-quality teaching, impactful research, and efficient service delivery across all departments,” the VC said.

She urged the recipients to ensure proper maintenance and careful handling of the furniture. “We expect you to take good care of these facilities and ensure they are used for the benefit of the university,” she added.

This is not the first time UNICROSS has undertaken such an initiative. Last year, a similar distribution exercise was carried out for departments that had undergone accreditation visits from the National Universities Commission (NUC).

Some of the beneficiaries expressed their gratitude for the gesture, describing it as timely and beneficial to departmental operations.

“This is a welcome development, and we appreciate the efforts of the university management,” said one of the recipients.

The distribution of office furniture is part of the university’s broader plan to upgrade its facilities.

Bassey announced that the next phase would involve distributing computers to heads of departments, results portal desk officers, and exam officers.

The university’s efforts are expected to yield positive results, with staff members likely to be more productive and efficient in their work. As Prof. Bassey noted, “A conducive working environment is essential for achieving academic excellence, and we are committed to providing that for our staff.“
