The award, in recognition of their hard work is part of the state government’s initiative to encourage workers to put in more effort and increase their level of productivity, accountability and transparency while in service.

Head of Service of the state (HOS), Dr. Innocent Eteng disclosed this while answering questions from journalists in Calabar on Monday.

Eteng, who gave insight into the Civil/Public Service Day celebration organised by the state government, stressed the awards serve as motivation to other staff.

Speaking on the theme, “Re-engineering the Cross River State Civil service for efficient service delivery”, Dr Eteng stated that certificates and medals will be given to the awardees to motivate them to bring out their best.

“A good number of them would be given medals and automatic promotion. I can assure you that staff who had worked very hard will be given automatic promotion.

“Those to be promoted will be drawn across from the three senatorial districts of the state. The award are not to be based on any ethnic, tribal or religious sentiment.

“We have public service and evaluations records to be used to assess civil servants. We are spreading it even up the local government councils. The selection process is going to be watertight,” he stated.

Eteng stated that arrangements were in top gear for the implementation of workers’ promotion, adding that Governor Otu had given directives for the immediate implementation of workers’ promotion.

“I had directed that the Permanent Secretary should compile list of those who had been promoted, and the promotions were yet to be implemented and sent to Office of Accountant General of the state.

“I can assure you that all those who whose promotions were yet to be implemented, will be treated in less than no time,” he assured.
