Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Youth Wing of Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong’s campaign organisation has kicked off a grassroots campaign across the Cross River South Senatorial District.

The youth wing declared support for President Bola Tinubu, Governor Bassey Otu and Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong.

After a media parley with journalists on Saturday, the director, Media and Publicity, Youth Wing of the organisation, Prince Charles Ekanem, told LEADERSHIP that the youth structure is commencing its campaign activities to ensure that candidates of their choice return to office in 2027.

“We are starting activities, especially the campaign period. We are beginning with the youth wing of the senator,” Ekanem said.

The convener of the Youth Wing, Obong Ekpe Eyo Ita, said the group comprises partners and believers in the leadership of Senator Ekpenyong, who made history as one of the youngest senators elected in 2023. “We are not just here as supporters, we are here as partners and stand-up believers,” Ita said.

He said the wing’s mandate is to mobilise support at the grassroots and across various local government areas to reduce the workload on the senator, who is still engaged in legislative duties in the National Assembly.

He said while the lawmaker is ‘trying to move motions, trying to facilitate passage of bills, we, his foot soldiers, are back home canvassing support for him and all the APC members.”

The group endorsed President Tinubu for a second term, Governor Otu for youth inclusion and performance, and Senator Ekpenyong for re-election, as well as all APC National and State Assembly candidates in the Southern Senatorial District. It added that the wing stands for APC 5 over 5 and will not condone anti-party activities.

The group further unveiled plans to drive youth engagement through technology, including deploying free Starlink internet services on campuses such as UNICAL, UNICROSS, and the College of Health Technology, as well as at campaign grounds. “This is the level of change we are trying to bring into our campaign structure because we want the young people to own it,” he said.
