The management of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) has assured staff and students of its commitment to clearing the backlog of salary arrears and preventing any disruption to academic activities.
A statement issued yesterday in Calabar quoted the vice-chancellor, Prof Francisca Bassey, as saying that the university’s leadership “is working assiduously to resolve the salary issue” and will not rest until it is settled.
“The vice-chancellor has, over the past several weeks, made deliberate and sustained efforts to engage relevant authorities and stakeholders to find a lasting solution to the outstanding salary issues,” the statement read.
As part of these efforts, Prof Bassey paid a formal visit to the deputy governor where the university’s financial situation and staff concerns were “thoroughly presented and deliberated upon.
“The deputy governor acknowledged the issues raised and assured Management that the matter would receive due attention.”
The university also disclosed that it has opened discussions with the state government, expressing hope that priority attention will be given to the matter.
“The governor has been duly informed and actively involved in discussions regarding the situation, and has indicated his commitment to looking into the matter upon his arrival in the State,” it said.
The school’s management emphasised that it remains “engaged with relevant authorities and stakeholders to facilitate a swift and amicable resolution,” expressing optimism that the interventions will yield positive outcomes.
“The University Management appreciates the patience and understanding of staff, students, and the wider University community during this period,” the statement concluded.
