The Coalition of Civil Society Groups (CCSG) has commended the appointment of Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole as the 5th Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), describing the development as “a right step in the right direction.”

In a statement signed by its Convener, Ambassador Ayobami Olarewajuto, the coalition said the emergence of Prof. Ogunwole has finally brought an end to the leadership crises that had trailed the institution in recent times.

The group lauded the transparent and credible process that produced the new Vice Chancellor, noting that it stands out as one of the fairest and most merit-based selection exercises in Nigeria’s university system.

According to the CCSG, the process is a testament to the integrity and commitment of the Governing Council, led by Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba (OFR, CON, SAN), whose “doggedness, vision, and transparent leadership have restored confidence in the university’s administration.”

The coalition observed that the controversies surrounding the succession of the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina, were fueled by vested interests, stressing that Prof. Ogunwole’s emergence—given his track record as a former Vice Chancellor of Bowen University, Iwo, Osun State—represents merit and competence prevailing over politics.

The CCSG further commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for upholding fairness, transparency, and due process in the selection exercise, as well as the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, for ensuring that the process adhered to the highest standards of integrity.

“We commend President Tinubu for allowing merit to triumph over political considerations. We equally salute the Governing Council for its exemplary leadership. The emergence of Prof. Ogunwole marks a new dawn of stability, academic excellence, and renewed hope for FUOYE,” the statement read.

The group urged all stakeholders—including staff, students, and host communities—to rally behind the new Vice Chancellor to collectively move the university to greater heights.
