The Coalition of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Katsina State has expressed outrage over President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration’s recent fuel price increase, calling it an “act of insensitivity” to the struggles of millions of Nigerians.

It said the decision has exacerbated the already dire economic situation, with many living below a dollar per day and facing severe challenges in affording daily meals.

According to the chairman of the coalition, Abdukrahaman Abdulahi, the recent prices released by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited for buying fuel from the Dangote Refinery at N950 is unfortunate and would increase the cost of essential commodities and services, entrenching hunger, starvation, malnutrition, and death among innocent citizens.

He added that the situation would also drive many Nigerians into crime and criminality to make ends meet, calling on President Tinubu to intervene on the pricing by reversing the fuel price to below N500 per litreand reviewing his policies to improve the people’s welfare.

He said the National Assembly and state governors should also intervene to ensure the president takes necessary action for the betterment of the populace.

Similarly, Tajuddee Maaruf, expressed dissatisfaction over the development, saying the government should come out and tell Nigerians the true situation on the fuel pump price. “We should stop depending on dollars; there are other areas to explore. The government should also end corruption,” he said.
