The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) in collaboration with the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and the Indigenous and Resident Youths of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the appointment of their own in his administration.

They also held a solidarity rally for the President‘s youth-oriented policies, especially appointing deserving and qualified youths.

They particularly acknowledged Ambassador Solomon Adodo‘s appointment to the governing board of the North Central Development Commission (NCDC).

Adodo, a long-time resident of the FCT and a leader of the NYCN, was appointed by Tinubu to represent the FCT on the NCDC board.

At a press conference in Abuja yesterday after the solidarity rally, the trio of Comrade Igwe Ude-umanta, Comrade Anzaku Shedrack and Comrade Mukhtar Akoshile, convener, Coalition of Civil Society Organisations, national secretary of NANS and NYCN vice president, North Central, respectively, described the appointment of Adodo as a „finishing hat-trick“ by Tinubu.

„As civil society organisations and youths, we must checkmate government policies and support humane policies. Just last week, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in exercise of his powers under the 1999 Constitution, approved Comrade Solomon Adodo‘s appointment into the NCDC board, thereby scoring an important and finishing hat-trick that must be appreciated.

„Through this appointment, a true nationalist, veteran of the civil society struggle, outstanding young leader, a national development advocate and activist was handed a platform to take his years of patriotic service to higher heights.

„It also reaffirms Mr. President’s belief in the youth and his commitment to involve them in governance. This has increased his administration’s political mileage in support and mobilisation towards the 2027 presidential election,“ the coalition said.

Manta continued, „We are here today in our numbers to thank Mr. President for this honour done to the civil society, the Nigerian youths, students, and residents of the Federal Capital Territory, even as we assure Mr. President of our unalloyed support and firm solidarity.

„It is not in our nature to be aloof when and where we are involved. In the coming days, he will be more convinced about the choice of Comrade Adodo he has made.

„Adodo is one of the comrades who can be trusted to deliver on any assignment.  He has mobilised compatriots to defend matters of the best national interest at several difficult times. He has defended the Renewed Hope Agenda, even when inconvenient or fashionable. He has done so with the best of intentions, clarity, and deep convictions.

„Of course, before Adodo, Mr. President had entrusted many other young Nigerians with sensitive assignments for which most are discharging creditably. The young people of this country are taking judicious notice of every position of trust, policy, legislation, and government action to improve the constituency of young people in Nigeria. It will surely be rewarded“, they reiterated.

The coalition further warned opposition elements that were disparaging and threatening Mr. President for the well-deserved appointment of Amb. Solomon Adodo is to desist from jeopardising the peace and tranquillity of the FCT with their ill-motivated protests and threats.

„It is public notice that some faceless and unregistered groups, financed by an opposition Senator as well as the misguided Mandate Secretary of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, are disparaging and threatening our dear President for this unassailable great choice of choosing Comrade Adodo.

„We are amazed by the audacity of people who never supported Mr. President from day one, only to wake up with threats. In doing that, they threaten the FCT‘s peace and must be held accountable. The fact that their scant protest on the 21st of May, 2025, was quickly dispersed should be a reminder of their irrelevance.

„With what Mr. President is doing in Abuja through the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, political support of the FCT is sure for Mr. President. By energising Comrade Adodo with this appointment, the support of the genuine FCT indigenes and residents for Mr. President is assured“, the press statement concluded.
