As part of its initiative to improve quality education in its host community, the African Natural Resources and Mines Limited (ANRML) has commissioned a block of three units of classrooms at the Government Secondary School, Gujeni, Kagarko local government area, Kaduna State.
The Vice Chairman of Kagarko LGA, Hon Titus Musa, while commissioning the project, said the building and furnishing of the classrooms and staff room will help improve the learning environment for the students and teachers.
In his remarks, the traditional ruler of the area, His Royal Highness, Engineer Bitrus James, thanked African Natural Resources and Mines Limited for the wonderful support given to the community by providing the classrooms.
He said: “When there is a conducive environment our children will learn better. ANRML has done well and we trust that as time goes on, they will do better to ensure we have a conducive environment.”
The Executive Chairman, Kaduna State Senior Secondary Education Board, Dr Suwaiba Ibrahim, said the governor was happy with what ANRML has done. “By building these classrooms, the company has shown that it’s on board with the drive of educational development in the state. We really appreciate this project and it is not just the building but a commitment to the development of the children of Kaduna state. We are happy with what the company has done.”
Director Public Schools Kaduna State, Mr. Mallam Muktar Maude, in his vote of thanks, commended ANRML for the public-private partnership in boosting the standard of education at the grassroot level. He also request the community and students to take ownership and protect the well-furnished classrooms and staff room built by ANRML.
The orincipal of the school, Mr Musa Danjuma Jasper, said the school was built in 2008, hence some of the structures were dilapidated. “The building of these classrooms and staff room by ANRML has given us a better infrastructure and will help to transform the school. We know it’s part of their community Development service but we appreciate them for this,” he said.
One of the students, Vivian Matthew, thanked ANRML for the classrooms and staff room. “We are grateful to them providing this structure for us. Also, government should bring more teachers to facilitate learning in our school.”
While presenting the key of the classrooms to the Principal of the school, CEO of ANRML, Mr. Narasimha Nayak, prayed the school will be a beacon of hope and opportunity for the future of the Gujeni community. He further congratulated ANRML & African Industries Group (AIG) on this initiative.
Among dignitaries who cut the ribbon at the unveiling of the block of the three classrooms to mark the official opening wrre His Royal Highness, Engr. Bitrus James, Assistant Director, Mines Environmental Compliance at the Ministry of Steel Development Mrs.Pani, Secretary to MIREMCO, Mr. Kenneth Isuwang and Chairman, Senior Secondary school Board, Kaduna State, Dr. Suweiba Ibrahim.
