The Senate has confirmed the appointment of Dr Zainab Marwa as a member of the governing board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), representing the North East geopolitical zone.
Her confirmation followed the consideration and adoption of the Senate Committee on NDDC’s report during plenary yesterday.
The report, sponsored by Senator Ekpenyong Asuquo, the committee’s chairman and lawmaker representing Cross River South, was presented by Senator Patrick Ndubueze (Imo North).
Ndubueze said President Bola Tinubu had forwarded Marwa’s nomination to the Senate for confirmation and that the nominee was subsequently referred to the committee for legislative consideration.
He said the committee conducted an open screening of the nominee to evaluate her competence, integrity, experience and readiness to serve on the NDDC governing board.
According to him, the committee, after reviewing Marwa’s credentials and relevant documents, found her qualified for the appointment.
“Having carefully screened the nominee and considered all relevant documents submitted, the committee is satisfied that Dr Zainab Marwa possesses the requisite qualifications, experience, integrity and competence required for the appointment,” Ndubueze said.
“Accordingly, the committee recommends that the Senate confirm the appointment of Dr Zainab Marwa as a member representing the North East in the governing board of the Niger Delta Development Commission,” he said.
Following the presentation of the report, the Senate confirmed Marwa’s appointment.
The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, commended the committee for the swift completion of the assignment and thanked the senators for their contributions during the confirmation process.
