Union Bank of Nigeria, through its employee volunteering program under its UnionCares initiative, recently commissioned a group of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects at the Ansar-Ud-Deen Primary School in Ebute-Metta, Lagos.
The initiative was conceived and executed entirely by the Bank’s 2022–2024 Management Trainee cohort. Projects delivered under the CSR project include new toilet facilities for both teachers and students, renovated classrooms, a functional borehole providing access to clean water, a generating set to ensure an uninterrupted power supply, and a range of educational materials for students.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Olufunmilola Aluko, Chief Brand and Marketing Officer at Union Bank, underscored the significance of the initiative, saying, “This project is proof of what happens when young professionals are trusted with purpose.
“Our 2022–2024 Management Trainees didn’t just complete a CSR mandate; they identified a need, rallied around it, and delivered real change for real children. At Union Bank, we believe impact begins from within, and UnionCares exists to channel the talent and passion of our people into communities that need it most.”
The commissioning reflected Union Bank’s broader commitment to social development, particularly in underserved communities. By embedding CSR into the employee experience, from entry-level trainees to senior leadership, the Bank is cultivating a culture where purpose and performance go hand in hand.
Union Bank said it remains committed to deploying its resources, expertise, and people toward initiatives that build stronger, more resilient communities across Nigeria.
