Customs Generates N22.01bn From Excise Duty In Ogun

The Ogun II command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), yesterday, said it generated N22.01 billion to the federal government in 2022.

Speaking, the Customs Area Controller of the Command, Deputy Comptroller, Ahmadu Shuaibu, who announced this in Abeokuta, while addressing journalists during the stakeholders meeting, said the total revenue collection for the first quarter, 2022, was N5.3billion, N4.3 billion in the second quarter, third quarter stood at N5.9billion and N6.4 billion for last quarter.

The CAC stressed the fact that he took over the affairs of the Command in October and by December of the same year , the command has recorded 25.44 per cent increase in its revenue figures when compared to the corresponding year of 2021.

DC Shuaibu attributed the success story to the collaboration with other agencies of government , who he said havegreatly enhanced productivity of his Command.

He said: “record showed practical involvement of agencies, inter agency collaboration, networking, incidence profiling, information gathering/processing and experience shared all helped to achieved this feat by deploying massive intelligence and effective monitoring in our operations.”

He also characterised 2022 with several challenges in the economic and trade supply chain, but he expressed delight that the command was able to make some laudable achievement using technology-driven initiatives to maximise revenue collection, enforcement of anti-smuggling operations, export promotion and synergy with the noble stakeholders in the industry.

To him,  “on assumption to office, I undertook a two-week tour of the Excise factories and free trade zones (FTZ) within the Command’s jurisdiction. This is in tandem with our commitment to enhance collaboration among the different stakeholders in the supply chains, and subsequently improve our performance and operational relationship.”

He solicited for the co-operation of various factories for prompt payment of appropriate excise duty and other charges, he appreciated the compliant traders and encouraged them to do more in discharging their respective responsibilities.
