The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has approved the promotion of 1,419 junior officers of the service.
This is even as the Ogun 1 Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) held a strategic meeting with executives of the Nigerian Association of Social and Resourceful Editors (NASRE) at its area command, highlighting the importance of collaboration in promoting national security and trade facilitation.
National public relations officer, Abdullahi Maiwada, the promotion list encompasses both General Duty and Support Staff who excelled in the 2024 promotion exercise.
According to him, 346 General Duty and 384 Support Staff officers were elevated from Assistant Inspector of Customs (AIC) to Inspector of Customs (IC); 4 General Duty and 13 Support Staff officers advanced from Customs Assistant I (CAI) to Assistant Inspector of Customs (AIC).
Others are; 372 General Duty and 59 Support Staff officers moved up from Customs Assistant II (CAII) to Customs Assistant I (CAI); and 188 General Duty and 54 Support Staff officers were promoted from Customs Assistant III (CAIII) to Customs Assistant II (CAII).
He said: “The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Management has approved the promotion of 1,419 junior officers across various ranks. This significant decision was ratified during the 10th Management meeting, chaired by the Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, on November 29, 2024.
“The comprehensive promotion list encompasses both General Duty and Support Staff who excelled in the 2024 promotion exercise. Specifically, 346 General Duty and 384 Support Staff officers were elevated from Assistant Inspector of Customs (AIC) to Inspector of Customs (IC); 4 General Duty and 13 Support Staff officers advanced from Customs Assistant I (CAI) to Assistant Inspector of Customs (AIC); 372 General Duty and 59 Support Staff officers moved up from Customs Assistant II (CAII) to Customs Assistant I (CAI); and 188 General Duty and 54 Support Staff officers were promoted from Customs Assistant III (CAIII) to Customs Assistant II (CAII).
“This strategic advancement underscores the transformative leadership of the NCS management team under the visionary stewardship of CGC Adeniyi.”
The Customs spokesman, however, disclosed that the Comptroller General urged the newly promoted men to redouble their efforts in fulfilling the Service’s core mandates of revenue generation, suppression of smuggling, and trade facilitation.
“By prioritising career growth as a cornerstone of workforce motivation, his administration inspires a culture of excellence, empowering employees to achieve their full potential and driving the organisation toward unparalleled service delivery.
“In extending his heartfelt congratulations, the CGC urges the newly promoted men to redouble their efforts in fulfilling the Service’s core mandates of revenue generation, suppression of smuggling, and trade facilitation. Additionally, the promotion list for senior officers is currently being processed, pending approval by the Nigeria Customs Service Board,” he noted.
Meanwhile, the Ogun 1 Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) at a strategic meeting with executives of NASRE at its area command, called for collaboration on awareness to improve national security and trade facilitation.
During the visit, NASRE congratulated the newly appointed Customs Area boss, Comptroller Mohammed Shuaibu, on his assumption of office. The association lauded his leadership qualities and expressed optimism about his ability to enhance the command’s operational efficiency.
Welcoming the NASRE delegation, the public relations officer of the command, Hammed Bujoye Oloyede reiterated the commitment of Comptroller Shuaibu to the core mandates of Ogun 1 Command, which include revenue generation, border security, and trade facilitation.
“Under his leadership, the command is focused on fostering innovation, teamwork, and active engagement with border communities and other stakeholders. These principles are essential for achieving sustainable growth and security in our operations,” Oloyede stated.
He further emphasised the need for strong partnerships with professional bodies like NASRE to ensure the accurate dissemination of information and to build public trust in the activities of the Customs Service.
In response, NASRE’s public relations officer, Adeyemi Obadimu, expressed the association’s eagerness to collaborate with the Ogun 1 Command in areas of media advocacy and public enlightenment. He highlighted NASRE’s role in promoting accurate and ethical journalism, which aligns with the Customs Service’s goals of transparency and accountability.
“We believe that this partnership will foster better understanding between the Customs Service and the public, especially on issues related to trade policies, border security, and economic development,” Obadimu said
The NASRE delegation emphasised the importance of leveraging media platforms to educate the public on the challenges and successes of the Nigeria Customs Service, particularly in combating smuggling and ensuring national security.
