The Kirikiri Lighter Terminal (KLT) Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), has recorded a remarkable 47 per cent increase in revenue.
The revenue increase, which was recorded under the leadership of outgoing controller, assistant comptroller-general (ACG), Joy Edelduok, is one of the strongest performance surges in the command’s recent history.
As of October 2025, the command generated N13.7 billion, a significant rise from the N9.4 billion collected in the same period in 2024.
Speaking to newsmen, ACG Edelduok said the command’s transformation stemmed from deliberate steps to revive dormant terminals, speed up cargo clearance, and position KLT as a friendly, efficient alternative to the congested mother ports.
“October 2024, our total revenue was N9,401,859,872. But as of October 2025, we had N13,787,999,000. From January to October ending, what we have is a 47 per cent increase over what we had in the previous year,” Edelduok announced during an interview with journalists at her thanksgiving and send-forth reception held on December 1, 2025.”
“The impressive fiscal outcome capped an 18-month tenure defined by operational reforms, aggressive compliance enforcement, and renewed stakeholder confidence.
“Most of the terminals under KLT were moribund when I came on board. But by the grace of God, some of them are very active right now. ESS Libra now has an average of fifty, sixty containers every month. Before now, we didn’t have that,” she said.
She emphasised that strict adherence to compliance and her open-door policy restored confidence among traders.
“Only compliant trade is what we want in KLT. If you want to experience speedy delivery, bring your order to the development area. She described her relationship with stakeholders as seamless, noting that her tenure recorded zero protests or demonstrations.
“I’ve enjoyed hundred per cent cooperation with stakeholders. I’ve not had one demonstration, not one. Even when they were not very happy, they knew they could come to me and talk. Centralised leadership style, she said, helped to foster unity with officers, agents, and sister agencies.
She highlighted improved road access and Customs innovations such as the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) scheme, One-Stop-Shop, and B’Odogwu platform as factors that have boosted cargo traffic into the command.
“It takes less than ten minutes from Tincan Island to come to KLT… With the new innovations that CGC has brought on board, business has become so seamless.”
While promoting trade facilitation, Edelduok maintained a tough stance on illicit imports.
During her tenure, KLT recorded major seizures, including fake drugs, cannabis, and contraband suitcases.
“Anything illicit is not welcome in KLT. When we find them, we will arrest them. And that’s exactly what we did.”
