Kebbi State Area Command of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) has seized contraband items worth N91.5 million in the state.
The newly posted Comptroller of the area command, Ben Oramalugo made this known during a press briefing held at the command’s headquarters in Birnin Kebbi.
The items were seized in operations combing the vast bushes and waterways in the state.
According to him, the seized assorted items include 8,975 litres of PMS loaded in 25 litres, 189 bags of foreign rice, 71 bags of imported sugar, 42 bales of second-hand clothing and 36 sacks of used shoes.
Other items include 74 cartons of bleaching cream, 110 solarcine batteries, 105 cartons of medicine, 7 used vehicles as means of conveyance and 1 tanker-truck under detention which was suspected to be smuggled into the country in contravention of the federal government extant policy, prohibition and importation of vehicles through land borders.
The comptroller further stated that the duty-paid value of the said items stands at N91,518,928 and it’s going to be auctioned immediately.
Oramalugo noted that the command has engaged in anti-smuggling activities so as to strengthen the nation’s border security.
He added that this is to prevent the influx of goods that are harmful to societal health and the economy of the country.
He also commended support and cooperation by other security agencies in the fight against smuggling and other criminal activities in the state.
