The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced a four-day extension of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The extension followed a review of electoral activities at the Commission’s Third Quarterly Meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) held on Tuesday.

In a statement signed by the Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Victoria Eta-Messi, on Wednesday, INEC said the CVR, which was originally scheduled to end on Wednesday, October 8, will now continue until Sunday, October 12, 2025.

According to Eta-Messi, the decision was made in response to the impressive turnout recorded across registration centres in the FCT.

“As of 7th October 2025, a total of 55,346 new voter registrations had been recorded in the FCT, comprising 38,528 online pre-registrations and 16,818 completed physical registrations,” she said.

“This impressive turnout underscores the growing civic awareness among residents and the effectiveness of devolving the exercise to the grassroots.”

INEC explained that the online pre-registration option remained suspended to allow pre-registered voters complete their registration in person at designated centres. The Commission said the decision aligns with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022, which requires physical verification to ensure the validity of voters’ records.

“This measure ensures the validity of their records in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022,” Eta-Messi noted.

The Commission urged all eligible citizens who have not yet registered to seize the opportunity of the extension, adding that registered voters who wish to transfer their registration to or within the FCT can also do so within the period.

INEC, however, cautioned against multiple registrations, reminding citizens that such acts are punishable under the law.

“The Commission once again appeals to all eligible citizens who have not yet registered to take advantage of this extension,” Eta-Messi said.

“Registered voters who wish to transfer their registration to the FCT, or within the FCT, are also encouraged to do so within this period. However, citizens are reminded that multiple registration is a punishable offence under the law.”

She further noted that the list and addresses of all registration centres remain available on INEC’s website and official social media platforms.

INEC also expressed appreciation to FCT residents, field officials, and stakeholders for their cooperation and commitment to ensuring a smooth registration process.

“The Commission appreciates the cooperation of FCT residents and the dedication of its field officials and stakeholders to ensuring a seamless and inclusive registration exercise,” the statement concluded.
