The Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi Foundation has enrolled 117 Nigerian students in Algeria to pursue programmes in medicine, engineering and other critical areas of education.
The foundation’s director of Education, Gwani Aliyu Dahiru Bauchi, revealed that 140 students were awarded scholarships under the scheme. Of these, 117 made all arrangements to depart for Algeria, while the remaining 23 will travel once they meet the necessary requirements.
Dahiru Bauchi said the beneficiaries were drawn from Bauchi, Gombe, Yobe, Kaduna, Taraba, Adamawa and other states in the country.
At the sent forth and Algerian Scholarship Orientation 2025 yesterday in Bauchi, Sayyidi Aliyu, explained that the orientation program equipped the students with vital skills to adapt in Algeria who were trained in French and Arabic languages, and were guided on how to achieve academic success and personal growth while abroad.
He commended Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed, for his support in funding the travel tickets of all the 50 students from the state.
“When the Algerian delegation visited Bauchi, Governor Bala Mohammed personally appealed that Nigerian students be allowed to study medicine in the country, a programme that was previously restricted to citizens only.
The Algerian authorities graciously approved, which is commendable,” he said.
Bauchi Dahiru said that aside from the ticket fees, the entire scholarship programme is sponsored by the Algerian government for all the beneficiaries. The programme allows the students to pursue education from bachelor’s to master’s levels, with efforts underway to secure PhD opportunities as well.
This marks the foundation’s second batch of students, following an earlier group of 66 students, some of whom have completed their degrees in various disciplines.
He commended Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, describing him as a pillar of religious and modern education whose lifelong commitment continues to open doors of opportunity for young Nigerians.
Some of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the foundation and its leader, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi.
Sadiyya Auwal, who will study Medicine, pledged to make the most of the opportunity, while Mukhtar Ahmed, a Computer Science student, commended Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi for the rare opportunity and promised to return home after his studies to contribute meaningfully to national growth.
