Damson Idris Named Formula One Global Brand Ambassador

British-Nigerian actor Damson Idris has been appointed Global Brand Ambassador for Formula One, marking a significant expansion of his relationship with the global motorsport brand ahead of the 2026 racing season.

The appointment follows the international commercial success of F1 The Movie, in which Idris starred alongside Hollywood actor Brad Pitt. In the film, Idris played rookie driver Joshua Pearce in scenes shot during real Grand Prix weekends using modified Formula 2 cars. The production became one of the highest-grossing sports films in history and earned widespread critical recognition.
Idris’s association with Formula One extends beyond filmmaking. At the 2025 Met Gala, the actor arrived in a custom race car before unveiling a tartan-themed outfit that celebrated his Nigerian heritage and paid tribute to his late mother.

Confirming the development, Formula One President and CEO Stefano Domenicali described Idris as a natural ambassador for the sport, noting that his work in F1 The Movie helped introduce Formula One to new global audiences.

Reacting to the appointment, Idris said Formula One represents the fusion of culture, performance and precision. He added that his experience working on the film deepened his appreciation for the physical and technical demands placed on professional drivers.
