The president and chief executive of Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote, has called for stronger economic partnerships between Africa and Canada, saying deeper collaboration in trade and investment would unlock significant opportunities for sustainable growth, industrial development and job creation.

Dangote made the call during a meeting with Canada’s Prime Minister, Mark Carney, where both leaders explored ways to strengthen investment partnerships and deepen economic cooperation between Canada and Africa.

The discussions centred on expanding investment opportunities in Canada and examining how the Dangote Group, alongside other African investors, could contribute to Canada’s economic growth. They also exchanged views on Canada’s Africa Strategy and the need to promote stronger two-way trade and investment between Canada and African countries.

Speaking during the engagement, Dangote stressed that closer economic ties between African and Canadian businesses would create lasting value for both regions.

“Strategic partnerships between Africa and Canada have immense potential to drive sustainable growth and create value for both regions. There is a strong case for increasing investment, fostering innovation, and building mutually beneficial commercial relationships,” Dangote said.

He noted that strengthening commercial cooperation would accelerate industrialisation, encourage innovation, and create employment opportunities, while supporting long-term economic prosperity in both regions.

As part of his visit to Canada, Dangote also held talks with Ahmed Hussen, Member of Parliament and Chair of Canada’s Foreign Affairs Committee.

According to the company, the meeting reinforced the importance of advancing Canada-Africa economic relations through enhanced trade, increased investment and long-term strategic cooperation.

The high-level engagements underscore the shared commitment of both sides to strengthening economic ties between Canada and Africa and fostering partnerships that promote inclusive growth, sustainable development and mutually beneficial investments.
