Dangote Cement Expands Green Logistics, Adds 1,500 CNG Trucks

Dangote Cement Plc has intensified its green logistics and sustainability drive, planning to acquire an additional 1,500 compressed natural gas (CNG) trucks to reduce carbon emissions, improve operational efficiency, and strengthen its environmental commitments across Africa.

The company said the expansion of its alternative-energy transportation programme underscores its commitment to integrating sustainability into every aspect of its operations while creating long-term value for stakeholders across its ten African markets.

According to the company, the additional CNG trucks will support its decarbonisation agenda by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, lowering dependence on conventional diesel-powered transportation, and enhancing logistics efficiency.

Dangote Cement noted that its sustainability strategy remains focused on reducing environmental impact, improving energy efficiency, promoting diversity and inclusion, supporting host communities and driving responsible business growth across the continent.

The company also announced that it has recorded significant progress in its environmental performance, earning an upgraded ‘B’ rating from the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) for its climate and water management initiatives. The improved rating reflects growing international recognition of the company’s sustainability efforts.

Dangote Cement stated that energy optimisation remains a critical pillar of its sustainability strategy, with a favourable energy mix helping to lower production costs while supporting efforts to reduce its carbon footprint across operations.

Speaking on the company’s sustainability agenda, the Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Cement, Arvind Pathak, said: “At Dangote Cement, sustainability is not a standalone initiative; it is embedded in the way we operate, invest and grow.

As we expand our footprint across Africa, we remain committed to reducing our environmental impact through cleaner energy sources, improved operational efficiency and innovative logistics solutions such as our growing CNG-powered fleet.

“Our goal is to create lasting value for shareholders while supporting the transition to a more sustainable and resilient future for Africa.”

He added, “We recognise that cement is essential for Africa’s development and infrastructure growth. Beyond environmental sustainability, the company said it continues to strengthen corporate governance and social responsibility, maintaining a diverse Board with 28 per cent female representation and directors drawn from seven different nationalities.

Dangote Cement also said it aligns its sustainability initiatives with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), focusing on responsible industrialisation, climate action, economic growth, and community development.

The company maintained that its sustainability performance complements a resilient business model that continues to create shared value for investors, employees, customers, host communities and governments across the continent.
