The Nigerian Academy of Engineering (NAE) has announced that Africa’s foremost industrialist, Aliko Dangote, will be inducted as an Honorary Fellow on Friday, April 25, 2026, in recognition of his contributions to engineering-driven industrial development.
NAE president and Council described the high-profile induction event as a celebration of Dangote’s profound impact on large-scale industrial and infrastructure projects across Nigeria and Africa.
Established in 1997, the NAE serves as the apex professional body for engineering in Nigeria and acts as a strategic think-tank on science, technology, and innovation, according to academy officials. Its membership includes distinguished Nigerian and international experts from diverse engineering disciplines and industry sectors.
The academy provides critical advisory roles to the federal government and private sector, offering policy guidance on engineering and technological matters to drive national development and enhance global competitiveness. It also serves as a platform for professionals to collaborate on solutions to complex national challenges.
Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, is widely recognised for championing advanced engineering projects, such as cement manufacturing plants and one of Africa’s largest petroleum refineries. His induction as an Honorary Fellow places him among a select group of eminent individuals honored for significant contributions to engineering and technology, despite not being professional engineers, NAE stated.
