Dangote Industries Limited has begun preliminary preparations for a 10,000‑hectare deep seaport at the Olokola Free Trade Zone in Ogun State, as part of its broader push into maritime infrastructure, logistics, and export‑driven industrialisation.
In a statement, the company said the multi‑billion‑dollar project is central to its Vision 2030 strategy, which aims to position Dangote as a globally recognised industrial and manufacturing powerhouse.
The proposed seaport is located in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area and extends toward Ilaje Local Government Area in Ondo State along the Atlantic coastline. It is expected to become a major logistics hub for exports, imports, and regional trade, easing pressure on existing ports while supporting wider industrial growth.
A delegation from Dangote Industries, led by the Managing Director of Infrastructure and Logistics, Capt. Jamil Abubakar, visited host communities in Ogun and Ondo states to begin stakeholder consultations ahead of the project.
“The Olokola Port project is a major step in unlocking Nigeria’s economic potential, easing pressure on existing ports, and supporting industrial growth. It will create real opportunities for host communities through jobs, business activities, and long‑term development across both Ogun and Ondo states,”
Abubakar said. “With its strategic location, Olokola will serve as a key gateway for exports and imports, boosting Nigeria’s competitiveness in regional and global trade. This project reflects our commitment to infrastructure that benefits both the people and the economy,” he added.
The seaport is designed as a logistics gateway for an integrated industrial ecosystem that will support Africa’s regional commerce and supply chain networks. It is expected to facilitate the export of fertilisers, petrochemicals, and refined petroleum products, as well as future liquefied natural gas exports, and the importation of heavy industrial equipment. Dangote officials confirmed that the project team would maintain ongoing engagement with host communities throughout implementation.
Preliminary visits included Ode‑Omi community in Ogun State, Araromi Seaside Kingdom, and Igbokoda in Ondo State. The Lenuwa of Ode‑Omi, Oba Folailu Adekunle Hassan (Oshotekun II), welcomed the project and approved surveys and household enumeration. The Alara of Araromi Seaside Kingdom, Oba Adeoloye Olawole, also pledged support, while military officials at the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base in Igbokoda expressed their backing for the proposed development.
