Former minister of defence and chief of army staff, Lt Gen.Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma (rtd) has tasked retired senior military officers in Zuru Emirate Council in Kebbi State to unite and defend the state.
He made the appeal at the weekend during a closing ceremony of Uhola 2024 Cultural Festival held in Zuru town.

Represented by Dr Bitrus Bago, Danjuma said since there are many retired soldiers both senior and junior in the emirate, it is now higher time to unite themselves to ensure peace reigns in the emirate and in Kebbi State.

He said without peace and harmony, the festival and other activities could not have been held in the community.

Danjuma commended the Kebbi State government, the Zuru emirate council for hosting the event as well as the federal government for adopting the festival into the national tourism events calendar in the country.

The chairman of the main organising committee of the festival, Lt-Gen. Ishaya Rizi Bamaiyi, commended the state government and the Emir of Zuru for the successful hosting of the festival.

He called on the federal government to rehabilitate and reconstruct the Koko-Dabai Road in order to enhance agricultural activities in the emirate.
