David Umahi Varsity Expels 14 Students For Misconduct

The David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences (DUFUHS), Uburu in Ohaozara local government area of Ebonyi State said 14 Students have been expelled or suspended for offences ranging from examination misconduct, stealing to poor academic performance.

The vice chancellor of the University, Prof Jesse Uneke made the disclosure during the 4th matriculation ceremony of the institution held at the school premises.

Prof Uneke said that the action was taken between the last matriculation and the current one adding that the action was approved by the Senate of the university.

Giving a breakdown of the actions against the students, the vice chancellor maintained that two students were expelled for examination misconduct, three received one year suspension for stealing, five received one-semester suspension for stealing while three were withdrawn as a result of poor academic performance.

 

He noted that the university maintains very strict discipline adding that the rules and regulations are unforgiving when they are violated.

Prof Uneke stated that to ensure student character development, the institution ensures restriction of movement of students out of the university without parents’ consent and the university’s approval adding that the school handbook containing the rules and regulations are made available for the students to guide them.

 

He said that the school commenced full academic activities with 26 students adding that the school experienced unprecedented increase in students’ admission in the second year and by January 2023, the number had increased to 701. He disclosed that the current students’ population is 2,496.
