‎‎A casual link-up at a luxury residence turned into a full-blown financial debate when Afrobeats superstar Davido, celebrity barman Cubana Chief Priest and  Super Eagles strikers Victor Osimhen and Victor Boniface began debating the true scale of Cristiano Ronaldo’s massive wealth.

‎The star-studded crew found themselves talking about the Portuguese football legend, sparking a lively argument over whether any single athlete could truly be “untouchable” by financial ruin.

‎The debate kicked off when rumours were brought up suggesting Ronaldo’s net worth is rapidly closing in on the $5 billion mark.  Davido, who grew up around generational wealth and runs his own highly successful entertainment empire, openly voiced his scepticism about the $5 billion figure. He didn’t focus on the specific numbers, but rather argued that no amount of money guarantees permanent financial security if bad decisions enter the equation:

‎”Having billions today does not necessarily guarantee financial security forever. Poor planning and bad decisions can affect anyone, regardless of their current status. Smart financial management remains important even for global superstars.”

‎Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface quickly pushed back, stepping up to defend the football icon’s financial armour. Boniface pointed out that Ronaldo is far more than just a footballer receiving a weekly salary from Al-Nassr.

‎He highlighted Ronaldo’s extensive global investments. The globally recognised CR7 mega-brand (clothing, footwear, fragrances), the Pestana CR7 luxury hotel chain, a massive portfolio of lifetime endorsements, tech startups, and real estate investments. Boniface argued that Ronaldo’s wealth is structured to be practically bulletproof, confidently stating that the football icon could spend millions on a daily basis and his empire would still generate enough passive revenue to ensure his fortune remains completely untouched.

‎As the banter intensified, Victor Osimhen stepped in to provide a grounded, uniquely Nigerian perspective. Rather than picking a side, Osimhen introduced a sobering reality check by referencing former Nigerian international Wilson Oruma. Oruma’s tragic post-retirement financial struggles after falling victim to a massive investment scam remain one of the most discussed and painful cautionary tales in Nigerian football history.

‎By bringing up Oruma, Osimhen highlighted why Davido’s warnings about caution and planning hit home so deeply for athletes, even when discussing someone as wildly wealthy as Cristiano Ronaldo. The debate perfectly captured the two sides of modern celebrity status: Boniface looking up to the ultimate blueprint of global sports commercialisation, and Davido offering the seasoned perspective that even the tallest financial empires require strict management to keep from crumbling.
