Military families, serving personnel and veterans are to benefit from education, entrepreneurship and digital skills programmes of the Defence Families Empowerment Foundation, formerly known as Beyond Barracks Project.
The organisation’s founding director, Mohammed Thompson, said the change of name, announced in Kaduna at the weekend, followed its growth and the need for an identity that better reflects its expanding focus on the welfare and development of veterans, serving military personnel, spouses, children and other members of the defence community.
Thompson said the foundation remained committed to improving the lives of military families through education, entrepreneurship, innovation and sustainable development.
He listed some of its initiatives to include the Defence Families’ Enterprise Development Programme, Defence Families Digital Skills Initiative, Defence Families’ Innovation Challenge and Digital Visibility and Artificial Intelligence Empowerment Programme.
He said the initiatives were designed to equip members of the defence community with relevant skills, promote entrepreneurship and create opportunities for innovation.
The foundation urged its partners, supporters, beneficiaries and members of the public to adopt its new name in all official references, assuring them that existing relationships and commitments would remain unchanged.
It also called on prospective partners to support its efforts to improve the welfare, education and economic well-being of defence families across Nigeria.
