Operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cybercrime Squad, Delta State Police Command, have arrested a native doctor, Okonji Chimeze, for illegal possession of firearms.

Chimeze, 47, was apprehended on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at his residence in Umuehe Quarter, Ibusa, in Oshimili North local government area, following credible intelligence.

During a search of the premises, the operatives recovered two automatic pump-action guns and a cutlass concealed in the ceiling of his room.

The operation was carried out under a valid search warrant.

Similarly, the Eagle-Net Surveillance Team stationed at Ughelli North LGA, while on Routine stop and search duty along Otokutu Bridge, Warri, intercepted a black Toyota Corolla car with registration number RSH 90 RC driven by one Telvin Richmond m’, aged 27, of Opete by Otokutu, and one Frank Obiorah m’, aged 26, of the same address.

The vehicle and the suspects were subjected to a thorough search of the car, a locally made cut-to-size gun, two yellow hand-bands inscribed with NBM “neo black movement”, one battle axe and a wooden pistol, all concealed inside the compartment of the vehicle doors.

Confirming the arrest, the command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, said, “The suspects and the recovered exhibits are currently in custody as the investigation is ongoing.”

Preliminary investigation revealed that Richmond and Obiorah are members of the Aiye confraternity, and they bought the gun in the year 2024 for the sum of N87,000 from another suspect presently at large.

“Suspects are in custody, and investigation is ongoing”, Edafe said.
