Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon Dennis Guwor, has debunked any claim of betrayal in the political voyage of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, former governor Ifeanyi Okowa, and other Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Guwor who stated this Monday night in a live television interview on the mass movement of members of the PDP in the state to the APC, debunked any claim of betrayal in the political voyage.
The speaker acknowledged the worrisome irreconcilable challenges, including a series of litigations occasioned by leadership tussle at the national level, stressing that those deeply involved had refused to shift grounds and let peace prevail.
He said, “Nobody betrayed anybody, the PDP at the national level is challenged with series of litigations. Most recently is the issue of the national secretary of the party that was decided by the Supreme Court.
“Secondly was the merger issue where Governors of the PDP met in Oyo State and decided that the party will stand alone when it has not been able to hold its NEC meeting in the last one year,” Guwor said.
“It was clear that the PDP does not have a clear cut direction as to its national leadership, hence the decision for the mass movement”, Guwor stated.
Meanwhile, Chief Great Ogboru, the 2019 governorship candidate of the APC, has said Governor Oborevwori, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, and other members’ decision to join the APC signifies a turning point in Delta State political history.
Ogboru during an interview in Asaba welcomed them into the APC, describing it as historic move not only for APC but for the entire state.
Ogboru popularly known as the ‘People’s General’ said the synergy between the federal government and Delta State would ensure significant benefits to the people in Delta State in terms of infrastructure and human capital development.
“This is a defining moment for Delta state and Nigeria. It signifies a turning point in our state’s political history because Oborevwor’s decision will further reunite our people and fasten development and progressive governance in the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“With Delta state aligning with the party at the centre, it is certain that a new chapter has been set for greater collaboration, impactful governance and a more inclusive political process”, Ogboru stated.
