Delta State First Lady, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, in partnership with Fidelity Bank Plc, on Tuesday, empowered 500 market women across the state with cash grants, sewing machines and grinding machines.

400 beneficiaries received cash grants totalling N20 million, while 50 women were presented with grinding machines and another 50 received sewing machines to support their businesses.

The empowerment programme, held in Asaba, was organised by Fidelity Bank in collaboration with You Matter Charity Foundation, under the bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, “Give Her Power”.

Speaking during the event, Deaconess Oborevwori, Founder of the You Matter Charity Foundation, further announced an additional N20 million contribution from her foundation, increasing the cash support for each of the 400 women from N50,000 to N100,000.

She described the initiative as a transformative programme designed to restore hope, strengthen families, and promote economic inclusion among women in Delta state.

“Today, we are here to witness the generosity of Fidelity Bank Plc as they put smiles on the faces of 500 women through its collaboration with the You Matter Charity Foundation. This event is not only about distribution; it is about transformation, restoring hope, strengthening families, and building a more inclusive and prosperous society, one woman at a time.”

According to her, women remain the backbone of society, and empowering them translates into stronger families and thriving communities.

The Delta First Lady commended Fidelity Bank for investing in women and community development, noting that the partnership reflected the impact that can be achieved when corporate organisations align with social causes.

“Use these resources wisely to expand your businesses, support your families, and contribute meaningfully to your communities,” she advised beneficiaries.

She also reaffirmed her commitment to promoting women’s economic empowerment and social inclusion, while calling on other corporate organisations to emulate Fidelity Bank’s gesture.

Earlier, Executive Director, South, Fidelity Bank, Pamela Shodipo, said the empowerment initiative reflected the bank’s dedication to strengthening communities through its Fidelity Helping Hands Programme.

She explained that the programme serves as a Corporate Social Responsibility platform through which Fidelity Bank staff across different locations identify and support impactful community projects.

According to her, the bank donated N20 million to the You Matter Charity Foundation to support the empowerment programme, adding that empowering women creates positive ripple effects for families, businesses, and communities.

Shodipo commended the Delta State First Lady for her partnership and commitment to ensuring that the support reached deserving beneficiaries.

Also speaking, Regional Bank Head, Fidelity Bank, Augusta Anyanwu-Egbom, advised the women to embrace good saving culture, maintain quality customer service, and improve product packaging to grow sustainable businesses.

One of the beneficiaries, Joy Osegbuwa, on behalf of other beneficiaries, expressed appreciation to the Delta State First Lady and Fidelity Bank for the initiative, describing the support as timely and impactful for market women across the state.
