Over the past five years, DevEast has empowered entrepreneurs, supported startup growth, and fostered innovation across communities in Nigeria’s South-East and South-South regions. Through strategic programmes, mentorship initiatives, capacity-building interventions, and startup support, the organisation has created opportunities for young people to develop critical skills, build sustainable ventures, and contribute meaningfully to economic growth.

With a focus on bridging the gap between potential and opportunity, DevEast has established itself as a platform for entrepreneurship development, innovation, and community impact, particularly within tertiary institutions where young entrepreneurs are equipped with the knowledge, networks, and resources required to thrive in an increasingly dynamic economy.

Over the last five years, DevEast has recorded significant milestones, including:

  • Reaching 25 tertiary institutions across the South-East and South-South regions through entrepreneurship, innovation, and capacity-building initiatives.

  • Directly impacted over 1,400 beneficiaries through entrepreneurship programmes, workshops, training sessions, conferences, competitions, and other community-driven initiatives.

  • Providing funding support to several startups and business ideas, enabling aspiring entrepreneurs to transform innovative concepts into viable ventures.

Speaking on the organisation’s journey and impact, Head of Philanthropy, Orobome Akpokiere, said:

GENERAL

“Our five-year journey reflects the power of investing in people, ideas, and communities. Beyond the numbers, we are proud of the entrepreneurs who have gained confidence, built businesses, created value, and inspired others to pursue their ambitions. We remain committed to expanding opportunities for young innovators and strengthening the entrepreneurial ecosystem across the region.”

As DevEast continues to evolve, the organisation is focused on deepening its impact through sustainable programmes, stronger partnerships, and initiatives that create long-term value for beneficiaries and communities. By collaborating with academic institutions, private sector organisations, development partners, and industry leaders, DevEast aims to expand access to entrepreneurial opportunities and accelerate inclusive economic development across the region.

The experiences and outcomes of the last five years highlight the important role that entrepreneurship, innovation, and strategic collaboration play in advancing sustainable growth. With a clear vision for the future, DevEast remains committed to empowering the next generation of entrepreneurs and fostering resilient communities through innovation-driven development.

Building on this foundation, DevEast is pleased to announce the opening of applications for the Entrepreneurship Week 2026 Business Pitch Competition, a flagship initiative designed to connect emerging entrepreneurs with industry leaders, investors, mentors, and opportunities for growth.

Organised in partnership with the Federal University of Technology Owerri Enterprise Development Centre, Entrepreneurship Week is a flagship platform that connects entrepreneurs within the university ecosystem with mentors, investors, business leaders, industry experts, and growth opportunities.

The 2026 edition will feature entrepreneurship masterclasses, capacity-building sessions, networking opportunities, business showcases, and the highly anticipated Pitch Competition, providing participants with a platform to refine their ideas, gain valuable feedback, and access growth opportunities.

Entrepreneurs with innovative business ideas and growth-focused ventures around the South-East and South-South regions are encouraged to apply for the Pitch Competition for a chance to gain visibility, connect with key stakeholders, and access funding opportunities.
