The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has assured the family of the late retired Major General Rabe Abubakar that security agencies will ensure those responsible for his death were brought to justice.

The assurance came as a Defence Headquarters delegation, led by the Chief of Administration (Army), Major General IM Abdullahi, paid condolence visits to the family of the late senior Army officer and the Katsina State Government in Katsina on Sunday.

The delegation conveyed the condolences of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General OO Oluyede, and the Armed Forces of Nigeria to the bereaved family as well as the government and people of Katsina State over the tragic loss.

Speaking during the visit to the family residence in Katsina, Major General Abdullahi described the late former Director of Defence Information (DDI) as a patriotic and dedicated soldier who served Nigeria with distinction throughout his military career.

He said the late General made significant contributions to the development of the Nigerian Army and the nation’s security architecture through his decades of service.

“Major General Abubakar served the Nigerian Army and the nation meritoriously for over three decades. His years of dedicated service and sacrifice will not be forgotten, and his legacy will continue to inspire officers and soldiers of the Armed Forces of Nigeria,” Abdullahi said.

The Army chief further assured the family that the military and other relevant security agencies would spare no effort in tracking down those behind the retired General’s death while pledging the Armed Forces’ continued support to the family during the difficult period.

The condolence visit followed the death of the former Director of Defence Information, who died while in captivity after being abducted alongside his wife by suspected bandits in Katsina State about two weeks ago.

The Katsina State Government announced his death on Saturday, attributing it to a deteriorating health condition during captivity.

His remains were later laid to rest in Katsina on Saturday after funeral prayers attended by a large crowd.
