US rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs may be released from prison about six weeks earlier than previously scheduled as he continues to challenge his four-year sentence.
According to records from the US Federal Bureau of Prisons, Combs’ projected release date has been moved from June 4, 2028, to April 25, 2028.
The adjustment followed his acceptance into a drug-abuse rehabilitation programme in November. Participation in the Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP) allows eligible inmates to receive sentence reductions.
Reacting to the development at the time, a representative for the music executive said Combs was committed to rehabilitation.
“Mr. Combs is an active participant in the Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP) and has taken his rehabilitation process seriously from the start. He is fully engaged in his work, focused on growth, and committed to positive change,” the statement said.
The rapper’s release date was previously revised in November 2025, when it was moved from May 8, 2028, to June 4, 2028, after he allegedly violated several prison rules.
Meanwhile, Combs continues to contest his conviction. In December, his lawyers filed an appeal seeking either a reversal of the conviction or a reduced sentence.
However, prosecutors opposed the appeal in February, urging the court to uphold both the conviction and the four-year sentence.
Combs was arrested in September 2024 after more than 120 accusers, including a minor, came forward with allegations of kidnapping, blackmail, abuse and prostitution-related offences.
In October, a New York court presided over by Judge Arun Subramanian sentenced him to more than four years in prison after he was convicted on two counts of transportation for prostitution
The music mogul was initially held at the Metropolitan Detention Centre in Brooklyn but was later transferred to the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Fort Dix, a low-security prison in New Jersey, in October 2025.
His legal team had also approached former US President Donald Trump seeking a presidential pardon, but Trump declined to grant clemency in January.
