The controversy surrounding the authenticity of Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia as the Benue State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been laid to rest.

This followed the presentation of the INEC acknowledgement letter to him by the state working committee of the party in Makurdi, the state capital.

Recalled that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate Hon Titus Uba had dragged APC and Alia to court over what it described as non-compliance to electoral law during the party’s primaries which saw Fr. Alia as the party’s candidate

Presenting the acknowledgement letter to Rev. Fr. Alia, during his interface with the state working committee, the chairman, comrade Austin Agada explained that the presentation has put to rest all controversies surrounding Alia’s candidature and this is to formerly congratulate him for emerging as the APC candidate out of several other persons that contested for the position.

Agada also disclosed that in preparation for the 2022 general elections, the party has inaugurated nine committee members to go round the state to educate citizens and as well put together strategies that will lead APC to victory come 2023.

He said, “the emergence of Rev. Fr. Alia as the governorship candidate of our party has sent fears into the spine of the PDP and with this letter acknowledging him as the APC candidate in Benue, we don’t have any excuse of not taking over the State come 2023.”

He appealed to Alia to engage and reconcile all the aggrieved members of the party especially those that lost out during the primaries for the unity and success of the party in the forthcoming general elections.

In his acceptance speech, Alia, who commended the APC State working committee for standing by him in moments of trial, frowned at the level of underdevelopment and poverty under the PDP led administration.
