An educationist and former lecturer at the Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU), Dr Moses Nwosu, has underscored the need for people to eat balanced diet and nutritional foods for enhanced health.
Nwosu spoke with LEADERSHIP Sunday in Umuahia, the state capital after a keynote paper presentation at the 2025 Library Week organised by the state chapter of the Nigeria Library Association.
He stressed that balanced diet and nutritional foods like vegetables and fruits promote healthy living and provide supplements for healthcare and animal diseases.
The don explained that if people were adequately informed about the benefits of eating balanced diet and nutritional food, they will choose what to eat and what to avoid.
A medical practitioner, Chikezie Nwachukwu noted the need for what he described as regular comprehensive medical checkup for people from the age of 40.
Nwachukwu argued that such checks are important to ascertain the people’s state of health and to advice them according on any areas where necessary.
He said early detection and proper management of some ailments could go a long way to bring relief to and prolong the patient’s life.
He expressed worry that rather than seek help from experts, people resort to unorthodox means and “will go to hospital only when the situation is almost irredeemable”.
