Commandant-general of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has cautioned the Special Tactical Squad of the FCT command of the corps to use its newly commissioned gun-fitted trucks to flush out bandits, kidnappers and other criminals instead of using them to intimidate residents.
Audi, who promised not to spare any operative involved in intimidation, molestation or harassment of innocent residents, charged them to respect the constitutional rights of citizens residing in any part of Nigeria.
He gave the warning while inaugurating three gun-fitted trucks he donated to the FCT Command of the corps to help them improve their capacity to combat crime.
Audi who acknowledged that the FCT is facing an alarming spate of insecurity, said that notwithstanding, officers manning the gun trucks must utilise them only for the purposes of protecting Nigeria’s internal security, thereby presenting the expected result, while working in synergy with other security agencies.
According to Audi, going by recent events across the country, the NSCDC has demonstrated its capabilities and carved a nitch for itself in various operations and in the process, lost some of its personnel in the line of duty.
Dr Abubakar Audi, who particularly warned men of the FCT command to leverage on their professional capabilities, further charged them to showcase and prove critics wrong, showcasing only their expertise in the discharge of their duties.
He said, “As we all know, Nigeria is passing through asymmetric conflict which requires a rugged solution. The commissioning of these gun trucks is one of the strategic ways and methods of providing solutions to this present challenge.”
FCT commandant of the corps, Mr. Olusola Odumosu, said Audi’s policy of restructuring and rejigging the corps had started yielding the desired results across all cadres and formations, and promised that his command would not let him and the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, down.
