The Kano State 2024 School Enrollment Drive Campaign Committee has sought the support of the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, for the forthcoming launch of the enrollment drive in Kano.

Briefing the Emir at his palace on the program on Wednesday, the State Commissioner of Education, Alhaji Umar Doguwa, disclosed that arrangements had been completed to launch the enrollment drive campaign across the state.

He maintained that the committee was at the Emir’s palace to seek his support in sensitising the public to the importance of sending their children to school.
According to him, available statistics indicated that Kano had a record of 900,000 out-of-school children. Still, the number has now reduced due to the present administration’s commitment to overhauling the education sector.

The education ministry’s spokesperson, Balarabe Kiru, quoted the commissioner in a statement that apart from the distribution of school furniture and teaching materials to primary and post-primary schools, the administration has completed arrangements to distribute school uniforms and other teaching materials.

The commissioner, however, called on parents and other stakeholders to support this effort and ensure that children in the state are sent to school.

In his speech, the Chief of the UNICEF field office in Kano, Mr Farah Rahman, explained that launching the enrollment drive campaign in Kano aimed to increase the enrollment of children in schools across the state through sustainable community engagement and locally led solutions.

Also, the Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II assured the traditional leaders’ support towards achieving the set objectives.

While advocating for using the mother language in teaching students some subjects, the Emir tasked the state government with redoubling its efforts by ensuring adequate provision of school furniture, school renovation, and teacher recruitment.
