The Ishinkwo-Ukawu Autonomous Community in Onicha local government area of Ebonyi State has alleged that five of its members were missing following an armed invasion of the area.

Their mysterious disappearance is said to have brought tears, anguish and a call for serious intervention by the state government.

A statement by the spokesman of the Ishinkwo-Ukawu Community Development Union (ICDU) Worldwide, Agunkwo, gave the names of the missing persons to include: Mr Ali Una, Mr Oketa Mgbada, Mr Obo Ekuma, Nwite Oga and Mrs Agnes Alo Nwijaga.

According to him, on July 3, 2023, their community was invaded in day light with killings and maiming.

Mahakwe, who quoted a resident of the community who said he narrowly escaped the invaders, expressed sadness on the level of carnage meted on his kith and kin.

Equally, a resident of Abaomege, Mr Onyebuchi Eze (aka) Delaw Eze on his Facebook account posted a video at the heat of the attack where he expressed shock in the fact that the military personnel stationed in Abaomege Junction were unable to intervene during the attack.

According to him, the Ebonyi State government is fully aware of the grave situation and has already initiated measures through the immediate past administration of Governor Dave Umahi where warring communities were asked to steer clear of the disputed land.

He urged Governor Francis Nwifuru to restore order and prevent further unwarranted attacks and called for comprehensive investigation to unravel the identity of the perpetrators behind the attack and bring them to justice.

He called on the government to come to their aid through the provision of palliatives and medical aid to ameliorate the anguish and pain that the Ishinkwo people are experiencing at the moment.
