Leadership of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Ebonyi State has called on the Nigeria Police and the ruling All Progressives Congress APC to stop the indiscriminate arrest of innocent supporters of APGA in Okposi Community following the murder of the Councilor Representing Echara Ward 2 Okposi Community.
In a statement signed by the director of media and publicity, APGA Campaign Council, Mr. Charles Otuh and made available to LEADERSHIP said that many APGA supporters are still being detained following their arrests while carrying out their usual businesses peacefully by a team of the police force.
Otuh said their offence seems to be just identifying as APGA supporters adding that the Campaign council is worried that the Nigerian Police Force which failed to arrest any of those that attacked its campaign rally in Okposi Okwu on the 18th of February despite petitions acted very swiftly in arresting innocent supporters of APGA over a murder that it is yet to fully probe just hours after the incident.
“We therefore urge the authorities of the Nigerian Police Force, Ebonyi State Command not to allow itself to be used to destabilize our members and supporters.
“The police should always show its sincerity and impartiality by not acting on all the scripts handed to it by the APC administration in the state.
The campaign council called on the Commissioner of Police to order the immediate and unconditional release of the party supporters arrested and stop the hunt for the party members and supporters forthwith.
“We make this demand so that our supporters can freely participate in the electioneering process and vote freely for the candidates of their choices.
“We however urge our supporters to remain calm and law abiding as we are certain that our Party and its candidates will triumph over the forces of darkness and evil that has pervaded our lands.
