Ebonyi State Executive Council has approved the construction of 65 Housing units of 3-bedroom bungalows for 65 vulnerable widows selected from the 13 local government areas of the state.

The state commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Barr. Ikeuwa Omebe made the disclosure while briefing journalists on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting held at the New Government House Abakaliki, the state capital.

Barr. Omebe maintained that five widows were selected from each of the 13 local government areas of the state adding that those selected are vulnerable widows who are going through difficulties without much help from anyone.

He noted that a committee has been set up for the selection process. This is not a political patronage.

This is part of the wonderful gesture of the Wife of the Governor who recently handed over similar buildings to widows.

The State Government decided to continue in that direction so as to continue to put smiles in the faces of our widows.

“Following the completion of the 1st phase of the Widows Housing Scheme by the wife of the Governor, and in line with the Governor’s  vision anchored on the people’s charter of needs, EXCO approved the commencement of  all processes for awarding the construction of sixty five (65) housing units of 3 Bedroom Bungalows for 65 Widows in the state.

“The approved project which is expected to be for 5 widow beneficiaries per local government area is to be executed under the Community Charter of Needs (CCD) with the intention of putting smiles on the faces of the less privileged class of Widows in our societies.”

Barr. Omebe also said that the State Executive Council had earlier invited the General Manager and the former Acting General Manager of EBOTRANS to appear before it for explanation concerning the financial operations of the company.

He noted that EXCO after an extensive deliberation on the matter directed that the deputy governor in conjunction with the principal secretary invited the general manager and the former general manager, EBOTRANS for thorough explanations on the matter and recommend to EXCO their findings for necessary action(s).
