Ebonyi Group Threatens Recall Of Senator Nwebonyi Over Role In Natasha-Akpabio Feud

A socio-political pressure group, the Association of Ebonyi Indigenes Socio-Cultural in the Diaspora (AEISCID), has issued a scathing rebuke to Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi of Ebonyi North Senatorial District, warning that his conduct in the unfolding drama between the suspended Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, and the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has rought shame to the people of Ebonyi.

The group, in a statement signed by its President, Ambassador Paschal Oluchukwu, on Tuesday in Abuja, condemned Senator Nwebonyi’s public attacks on prominent Nigerians and his defence of Senate President Godswill Akpabio amid allegations of sexual harassment by Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan.

“His utterances, conducts, and actions are totally un-parliamentary, unwholesome and unbecoming of a legislator by every known standard,” Oluchukwu stated.

The group noted that while many Nigerians have expressed concern over the allegations and the controversial suspension of Senator Natasha, Nwebonyi has taken it upon himself to verbally attack critics of the Senate President, including former Minister of Education and renowned advocate for women, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili.

“We have watched, read and listened deeply with concerning compunctions, the heedless vibrations of one of our sons…who verbally attacks anyone and everyone calling for accountability,” the statement read.

According to AEISCID, Nwebonyi’s recent actions suggest a gross misunderstanding of his role as a lawmaker.

“He was elected to make laws for the benefit of his constituents and attract dividends of democracy, not to serve as an ‘attack dog’ in defense of a colleague,” the group said.

The group further accused the senator of abandoning legislative responsibilities to play political errand-boy to Senate leadership, describing his media engagements as “disgraceful.”

“What must have been promised or offered to the lawmaker to reduce himself and by extension ridicule the rest of Ebonyians?” AEISCID queried.

Citing growing rumours that Nwebonyi may be eyeing the Ebonyi State governorship seat in 2027, the group said his recent behaviour disqualified him from such aspirations.

“Ebonyi cannot continually be governed by the worst among us even in the guise of equity,” Oluchukwu warned.

In a final word of caution, AEISCID urged the people of Ebonyi North to begin considering a recall process if the senator continues “his disgraceful expedition” in defense of the Senate President.

“Enough should be enough already,” the statement declared.
