The Ebonyi State Police Command has expressed deep concern over the increasing cases of homicide across the state.
In a statement issued on Thursday in Abakaliki, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, conveyed the position of the Commissioner of Police, Mrs. Urunwa Okafor, who described the trend as a grave threat to society.
Okafor revealed that within March alone, the command had arraigned four suspects in connection with separate murder cases. The suspects — Onyebuchi Eze, Eze Nwuke, Odinaka Emmanuel Okoh, and Uchenna Ota — are currently facing prosecution.
Describing the development as alarming, the commissioner condemned the rising incidents of homicide, stressing that such acts are not only criminal but also inhumane.
She urged residents of Ebonyi State to avoid taking the law into their own hands and instead report disputes or grievances to the nearest police station.
Okafor further reiterated that murder remains a capital offence and a serious violation against humanity, while reaffirming her open-door policy. She encouraged members of the public to come forward with complaints, assuring them of swift and appropriate action.
