The Edo State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced the suspension of a former National Chairman of the party, John Odigie Oyegun, alongside a former governor of the state, Osareimen Osunbor, and Senator Ehigie Uzamare over alleged anti-party activities and insubordination.
Others affected by the disciplinary action include Senator Yisa Braimah, Hon. Nosa Ehima, Hon. Sylvester Ewanehi, Tony Alile, Jafaru Sumaila, Stella Alli, Igieogbe Asemota and Christopher Ojeikere.
The suspension was contained in a statement issued by the Comrade Kennedy Odion-led factional State Executive Committee (SEC) of the African Democratic Congress in the state.
According to the statement signed by the factional chairman, Kennedy O. Odion, the suspension will last for a period not exceeding three months, pending the outcome of investigations by the state disciplinary committee.
The party said the action was taken in line with relevant provisions of its constitution, citing alleged acts of insubordination, anti-party activities, and conduct capable of causing disaffection within the party.
It further accused the affected members of engaging in unauthorised factionalisation, including the creation of parallel structures, as well as participation in unapproved groups and caucuses not recognised by the party.
The statement read in part, “The Edo State Executive Committee, acting pursuant to its constitutional powers, hereby approves the suspension of the affected members pending the conclusion of investigations.
“Any member dissatisfied with the decision retains the right to appeal within 14 days of receiving the notice, while such appeals will be determined within 21 days by the appropriate organ of the party.”
Reacting, Oyegun dismissed the suspension, saying he would not dignify it with a response.
“I don’t descend so low; that is so inconsequential and I won’t waste my energy on that,” he said.
