A total of 800 secondary school students from Orhionmwon and Uhunmwode Federal Constituency, Edo State, are set to benefit from a free external examination registration scheme rolled out by a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Billy Adesuwa Osawaru.
The intervention covers 600 candidates for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and the National Examinations Council (NECO), as well as 200 candidates for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
Speaking on the initiative yesterday, Osawaru said the programme was designed to reduce the growing financial burden on parents and guardians, particularly those from indigent households, while ensuring that no qualified student is denied access to education due to cost.
He said, “Education remains the most sustainable investment in our future. This initiative is about giving our young people a fair chance to pursue their academic dreams, regardless of their financial background.”
The lawmaker described the scheme as part of his broader commitment to human capital development and inclusive governance within the constituency.
“By supporting 800 students across Orhionmwon and Uhunmwode, we are deliberately strengthening the foundation for long-term development. When we empower our children, we empower our communities,” he added.
Osawaru explained that under the scheme, eligible senior secondary school students are required to submit their details at the Hon. Billy Osawaru Federal Constituency Office, located at Iguobviobo Community, Benin-Auchi Expressway, Uhunmwode Local Government Area for processing and verification.
He called on parents and guardians to take advantage of the opportunity, noting that it comes amid rising examination registration fees nationwide.
