There is tension and fear in Obagie Nevbuosa and Okhoromi Communities in Oredo and Ikpoba-Okha local government areas of Edo State as residents flee over violent and criminal activities of land grabbers.

One of troubled communities is Obagie-Nevbuosa where tension has heightened, leading to the death of some persons, many houses burnt and several others destroyed.

The violence has led to the mass exodus of the inhabitants of the area.

A fleeing member of the community Osagie Iguodalo said they were afraid of being killed.

“The land grabbers have vowed to perpetrate evil against any of the land owners in the community anywhere they are found in the country and this threat was corroborated recently when human parts were found in the shrine of one of them at Okhoromi.

“The towns are now becoming a ghost places as a lot of notable persons have fled for fear of being attacked or abducted by the land grabbers.

“The land grabbers kept boasting and gallivanting about how well they are connected within and outside the system and nothing can be done to them, even after some of the residents were whisked away to an unknown destination, the law enforcement agents seem to be helpless about the situation,” he said.

Efforts to reach the police commissioner, CP. Monday Agbonika, on the crisis were unsuccessful.

A police source, however, confirmed the unwholesome activities of the land grabbers in Okhoromi and Obagie-Nevbuosa communities.
