EEDC Facility Vandalism: Police Nab 9 Suspects, Recover 2 Stolen Vehicles

Police in Anambra State have arrested nine persons suspected to have vandalised power supply facilities of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) in Oba area in Idemili-South local government area of the state.

The spokesperson for the police in the state, deputy superintendent of police, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu also disclosed that a team of the state police command has recovered two stolen vehicles.

He said the arrest of the electricity supply facilities vandals in Oba by the command’s police operatives was done in collaboration with the men of vigilante group in the community following a tip off by patriotic citizens.

Tochukwu said the following items were recovered from the suspects: a truck, seven welding machines, some iron, and, some other sophisticated equipment.

He said that the suspects were arrested at about 3am on Sunday after they allegedly vandalised the electricity power line mast at New Site, Ikpo Urueze Land, Oba community, adding that the suspects who were all males were aged between 28 and 50 years old and had already confessed to the level of their involvement in the act.

The police spokesperson said the suspects would be charged to court as soon as further investigations on the matter were concluded.

Tochukwu who also disclosed that the police in the state recovered two stolen vehicles gave the particulars of the vehicles as: Lexus Es350(black colour) with registration number: Lagos AKD495HU and Toyota Camry (grey colour) with registration number: Lagos JJJ 653 HW.

He stated that the vehicles are now in the custody of the state police command and that the owners should come forward with proof of ownership to claim them.
