The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) quizzed Uju Kennedy Ohanenye, a former minister for women‘s affairs, on Thursday for her alleged roles in misappropriation, violation of the procurement process, and diversion of public funds totalling N138, 413,  253.89 in the course of disbursing the 2023 budgeted funds for the ministry.

EFCC sources who spoke to LEADERSHIP said the former minister arrived at the commission headquarters around 11:00 a.m. on Thursday and faced interrogators about her alleged involvement in the fraud.

The sources said investigations by the EFCC showed that funds donated to the P-Bat Cares for Women initiative were diverted for her self-enrichment.

As of press time, interrogations were still ongoing as she has not been admitted to administrative bail.

Recall that President Bola Tinubu sacked Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye in October 2024 alongside the then minister of Tourism, Lola Ade-John; the minister of education, Tahir Mamman; the minister of State, Housing and Urban Development, Abdullahi Gwarzo; and the minister of Youth Development, Jamila Ibrahim.
