Egwu’s Comments On Wike Stem From Envy, Regret, Says Aide

The senior special assistant to the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, has dismissed former Ebonyi State Governor, Dr. Sam Egwu’s remarks about Nyesom Wike, saying those expecting the minister’s political downfall “will wait forever.”

Olayinka was responding to Egwu’s recent comment that Wike was “living on borrowed time” and that his influence would soon fade.

He stated that unlike Egwu, whom he described as a “spoon-fed politician,” Wike’s rise was due to “personal hard work, dedication, commitment, and most importantly, the grace of God.”
The minister’s aide further accused Egwu of speaking out of envy, saying, “Someone who mismanaged his political life will always live with the mindset that others will mismanage theirs too.”

Olayinka also addressed Egwu’s alignment with a faction of the South-East Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders threatening to withdraw support for the party.

He dismissed the threat as illogical, noting that those who failed to deliver substantial votes for the PDP in 2023 lacked the moral standing to make demands.

“The PDP constitution is clear as to who is the National Secretary of the party, Senator Samuel Anyanwu. Anyone saying or doing anything contrary is only interested in the collapse of the party,” he stated.

He mocked Egwu’s political relevance, saying, “It is funny that a former commissioner, two-term governor, ex-minister, and senator who couldn’t deliver anything to the PDP in 2023 is among those threatening the party.”

Reacting to Egwu’s challenge to Wike to facilitate the reinstatement of suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Olayinka described the statement as “preposterous” and akin to “beer parlor talk.”

“How can a former senator suggest that the FCT Minister now exercises the powers of the President and the National Assembly? Such comments only expose Egwu’s regret over Wike’s political success. But can we stop him from regretting? No, we can’t,” he said.
