Ekiti State House of Assembly has concluded plans to hold a special plenary to rally stakeholders against Gender Based Violence.

This was contained in a statement in Ado Ekiti by the Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Hon Adeoye Aribasoye, saying it is part of activities marking the 16 days of activism against gender based issues.

Aribasoye said the House was disenchanted with the rate at which GBV was increasing in Ekiti, despite concerted efforts to rid the state of it, hence the need to organize the special session.

Participants scheduled to present position papers at the plenary, according to the statement included, the wife of Ekiti State governor, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, the former Attorney General, Barrister Olawale Fapounda (SAN).

Others are representatives of the Judiciary, Nigeria Bar Association, Civil Society Organisations and other critical stakeholders pivotal to the war against GBV in the state.

The House added that the session was also aimed at reviewing the adequacy of the laws and other government policies on gender based issues, to determine whether gaps exist and what needs to be done specifically in the area of joint action by government and civil societies .
