Ekiti State government has reiterated its commitment to the welfare of pensioners and workers in the state.
Governor Biodun Abayomi who stated this noted that one of the challenges administrations contend with has to do with the payment of gratuities to retirees.
He spoke in Ado Ekiti while presenting the cheque of N130 million gratuities to retired local government workers and retired primary school teachers in the state.
Governor Oyebanji who presented the cheque to the retirees alongside the Chairman of Nigeria Union Pensioners (NUP) in the state, Elder Jeol Akinola said, “I quite understand the pains and agony of people working for so many years and not been paid their entitlement as and when due”.
The governor said, “As of today, the state owes in excess of N40 billion, as outstanding liabilities and that in spite of the best effort of the last administration, the last administration increased remittance to PTAD to the tune of N100 million monthly.
“I want to assure our elderly citizens that this administration will continue to make payment of pension and gratuity a top priority.
“The beneficiaries will include retirees that are alive and the next of kin of those that are already deceased and may the good Lord rest their souls”.
He solicited for the support of Ekiti people for the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the February 25, elections.
“Also, give support to all APC candidates both at the national and state assembly elections”.
