Former Kaduna State governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, who arrived at Kaduna State High Court for the continuation of his trial by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) over alleged corrupt practices was overheard discussing the forthcoming African Democratic Congress (ADC) national convention with an associate.
It was observed that security around the court premises was beefed up, with operatives stationed at strategic points to maintain law and order.
El-Rufai is being tried by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) alongside one Amadu Sule over allegations bordering on abuse of office, fraud, intent to commit fraud and conferring undue advantage.
Shortly before entering the courtroom, former governor El-Rufai was overheard discussing the forthcoming convention of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) with an associate.
“So tomorrow is our convention, right?” he asked, to which the associate responded, “God willing,” indicating his continued engagement in political activities despite the ongoing trial.
The former governor was arraigned before Justice Rilwan M. Aikawa of the Federal Court, Kaduna on a 10-count charge bordering on alleged conversion and possession of public property, as well as money laundering, instituted by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission.
The bail application filed by former Kaduna State governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, had been adjourned to April 14, 2026, for ruling by the Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna.
The ICPC had also arraigned El-Rufai at the Kaduna State High Court presided by Justice Darius Khobo, alongside a businessman, Amadu Sule, on allegations of abuse of office, fraud, attempted fraud and the granting of undue advantage.
The former governor had been in the custody of the ICPC since February 19 until March 28, when he was temporarily released on compassionate grounds to witness the burial of his mother who died in Cairo, Egypt and was buried in Abuja.
