The son of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, Hon. Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, has accused the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) of violating a court order by denying his father access to medical care and food while in detention.
In a statement posted on his verified Facebook account on Friday, Bello El-Rufai alleged that ICPC officials prevented the former governor’s personal doctor from seeing him despite an existing court order granting unrestricted medical access.
According to the statement, the doctor arrived at the ICPC headquarters around 3pm on Friday to discuss the outcome of recent medical tests conducted on El-Rufai, but was turned back by officials who reportedly insisted on written approval from the ICPC Chairman.
“Our father, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, is still being held by the ICPC. Today, 15 May 2026, we witnessed two distinct yet equally serious attacks on his basic rights,” he said.
He described the action as a direct violation of a court order and an assault on his father’s constitutional rights.
Bello El-Rufai further alleged that his mother, Aunty Aichatou, was also denied access when she attempted to deliver her husband’s evening meal around 7pm.
According to him, ICPC personnel informed her that food deliveries were no longer permitted after 6:30pm.
“This arbitrary rule is no less offensive than blocking his right to medical care,” he stated.
The lawmaker condemned the development, accusing the anti-graft agency of using “intimidation dressed up as protocol.”
“These acts are an outright assault on the rule of law and a clear violation of our father’s constitutional and human rights.
No lawful detention justifies denying medical access or refusing basic family care based on an arbitrary curfew fixed by the ICPC,” he said.
He added that the family would no longer tolerate what he described as repeated violations of El-Rufai’s rights and demanded that the commission comply with the law.
“We demand that all his constitutional rights be fully respected.
We will no longer accept this pattern of intimidation dressed up as protocol.
The ICPC must abide by the very laws it claims to enforce,” the statement added.
The ICPC is yet to officially respond to the allegations as of the time of filing this report.
